Biometric authentication

Biometric authentication is a secure method of identity verification that analyzes a user’s unique biological or physical characteristics, such as their fingerprint, facial geometry, iris patterns, or voiceprint. Unlike password- or token-based methods, biometric authentication offers stronger protection and a more seamless user experience by leveraging individual traits that are extremely difficult for a fraudster to replicate.

Use case / examples of biometric authentication

Secure account access: Protecting mobile banking apps, online banking, and digital/cryptocurrency wallets by verifying users through biometric methods like fingerprint or facial recognition to reduce the risk of unauthorized access. These may use on-device biometric sensors like Face ID or Touch ID.

Secure customer onboarding: Verifying user identity during the creation of an account with biometric authentication, to ensure regulatory compliance and prevent synthetic identity fraud. This includes techniques like matching a user's selfie to their government-issued ID documents for KYC compliance, or confirming liveness during the onboarding process.

Employee Access Control: Restricting employee access to sensitive systems or data facilities with biometric credentials, to authenticate employees with a higher degree of accuracy and accountability. This includes biometric login requirements for remote systems, verifying identity before high-risk internal transactions or access are approved, and controlling access to secure areas and systems with facial or fingerprint recognition.
