Biometric matching

Biometric matching is the process of comparing a user's biometric data, like their fingerprint, facial geometry, or voiceprint, against a stored reference to confirm identity. This comparison can be one-to-one (as secondary validation to verify a claimed identity), or one-to-many (for example, to search for a match across a database before authorizing or denying access based on the biometric information alone). Biometric matching is a foundational capability for biometric authentication systems. It enables fast, accurate, and more secure user verification.

Use case/ examples for biometric matching

Fingerprint matching: Verifying a user’s fingerprint scan against their stored fingerprint template during account login.

Facial recognition: Matching scanned facial geometry against a photo ID during customer onboarding.

Voice biometrics: Searching a voice sample against a database of known fraudsters before approving an account application, or using voice as part of a multilayered customer authentication process in a customer service call center.

Employee authentication: Authenticating employees for access to a secure facility or data center by comparing their facial scan to all registered personnel profiles.
