Mitek customer ABN AMRO lends its computing power to search for COVID-19 treatments

June 15, 2020

In the hunt for treatment protocols and a vaccine for COVID-19, computing power is king. Mitek customer ABN AMRO is lending its data-driven research lab, The Dataistic Project, to the Folding@Home distributed computing project.

“Through Folding@Home we hope to speed up the development of methods to control COVID-19 and other diseases,” says Micha Rentier, head of the Technology Lab of ABN AMRO.

In addition to Folding@Home, ABN AMRO is reaching out to all scientists fighting COVID-19, offering help with computer calculations, analysis or setting up data research." Joining the Folding@Home initiative is a start, but we believe that there are more researchers, like data scientists, virologists and doctors, that can benefit from our Dataistic Center facilities.”

The Dataistic Project, an initiative of ABN AMRO and Dell Technologies, helps propel data-driven research with a social objective. In addition to its work on COVID-19, it currently is helping universities, medical institutions and charity organisations in their data-driven research and experiments. One example: it joined forces with the Princess Máxima Pediatric Hospital in the battle against childhood cancer, minimizing the time required to analyze patient data, diagnose and define a treatment approach.
