SAN DIEGO – November 21, 2013 – Mitek (NASDAQ: MITK, www.miteksystems.com), the leading innovator of mobile imaging for financial transactions, today announced that it has been issued U.S. Patent No. 8,582,862, “MOBILE IMAGE QUALITY ASSURANCE IN MOBILE DOCUMENT IMAGE PROCESSING APPLICATIONS,” by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Mitek now has 18 patents issued and 21 patent applications pending.
Mitek scientists have invented a new series of advanced algorithms and intellectual property which underpins this patent. These algorithms assess document image quality and enable more efficient processing for Mitek clients and reduced friction in the consumer experience.
To deliver a superior user experience, Mitek Labs created a way to evaluate the quality of the images captured by the consumer in order to determine if they can be processed correctly. CTO, Michael Strange explains that “assessing the quality of the image is a critical component of mobile imaging. Consumers can take imperfect pictures of documents, whether a check, bill or driver’s license. Our job is to process as many of these images as possible and we have pioneered a method of measuring image quality as described in this patent.
