The most recent annual Volunteering and Civic Life in America research, conducted yearly by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), shows 1 in 4 Americans volunteered through an organization and nearly two-thirds helped their neighbors last year, demonstrating that service to others continues to be a priority for millions of Americans.

The Volunteering and Civic Life in America research found that volunteers are almost twice as likely to donate to charity as non-volunteers. Nearly 80 percent of volunteers donated to charity, compared to 40 percent of non-volunteers.  Overall, half of all U.S. citizens (50.5 percent) donated at least $25 to charity in 2015.

The majority of that giving tends to come from individuals. Specifically, individuals gave $264.58 billion in 2015, accounting for 71% of the total fundraised.

Smarter fundraising with mobile check deposit makes giving easier

MobileDeposit makes giving easier Making donating convenient, easy and secure is imperative for non-profits in order to win new donors and keep their current givers engaged. This is particularly important for most monthly donors, who cite convenience as the main reason for regular giving.

“Since checks are an important source of donations, having a reliable and innovative technology to help streamline the check capture process is critical to our success,” said Ben Kaplan, senior director, Mobile, American Cancer Society.

The American Cancer Society is not the first to use mobile deposit to make donating easy.  The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® raised $1.7 million in six months using mobile check deposit.

“One thing that donors and researchers all agree on is that charitable organizations should keep their expenses low while making it easier for donors to contribute.  Mobile deposit does exactly this by increasing convenience while enabling the American Cancer Society to leverage the same technology used by the biggest banks in the U.S.,” adds Michael Diamond, general manager of Mitek’s Payments Division.

“Our goal is to create the best user experience for our donors and fundraisers, driving business value to help fund our mission of freeing the world from the pain and suffering of cancer,” stresses Kaplan.

The American Cancer Society has integrated Mitek’s Mobile Deposit® and Mitek MiSnap™ into its mobile fundraising app, making it easy and fun to raise money to help save more lives from cancer.
